Commanders Message

Hello 2016; another year and another page in the history of this post and the American Legion are waiting to be written. This past year has been a turbulent one, and we faced the many challenges together, I am sure there will be more challenges and changes in the New Year and I am reaching out to each and every member to do what you can to strengthen and improve our Legion.

To the many members and officers who have sacrificed their time and resources this past year, I cannot thank you enough. Special thanks to Ed Hicks, Donald Woodbury, Wayne Miller, Andrew Heric and Robert Dymerski for the effort they provided this past year.

A special thanks to Charles Alsup whose help with the Honor Guard and Christmas Parade is especially appreciated.

Let’s give a warm welcome to our new Chaplain, Rick Ricciardi, who will make a fine addition to our organization.

May the New Year be the best year yet, I am so humbled to be the Commander of such a fine Organization.

Post Commander

It is so easy to take people for granted, or even to complain and become angry because they do not meet our every wish. But we need to give thanks for those around us -our spouses, our children, our relatives, our friends and others who help us in some way.

Do you let others know that you appreciate them and are thankful for them? Thank God for those who touch your life.

SAL

What are the reasons people join an American Legion Post?

To pay honor to a loved one that was in the service?

To pay honor to all our veterans and active duty serviceman?

A place for past and present military persons to come and be with their own?

A place to come donate time and money to help the programs of the post and Legion?

To participate in public events such as parades?

To be part of a family of friends?

To give back for all our serviceman have done for this country over time?

For the comradely and good feeling of working together for a common cause?

To get cheap drinks and food?

Hi Ladies

Goodbye 2015 and welcome 2016.  Hard to believe it’s over.  I really appreciate all the hard work you all have done throughout 2015.  I know we will continue to make progress with our committees and fundraisers.

I would like to thank everyone who helped decorate the Post for Christmas.  It really looks great.  We had a great time doing it and have received many compliments.

MEMBERSHIP – For those of you who have not yet paid your membership fee of $25, as of December 31st you are no longer an active member and a list will be given to the Commander reflecting the non active members.  At that point you will no longer be able to take advantage of the various offerings at the post i.e.: bar privileges, etc.  So, get your dues in.

As mentioned in my last newsletter, the Veteran Enforcers Motorcycle Association passed on to us the names and requests from children from Stand Down House.  I want to thank everyone who participated.  There were tons of presents and I’m sure the children were happy with their gifts on Christmas morning.

We attended the JTAA Holiday Parade on December 13th.  Everyone had fun and Kylee Angell and Cassie Bevens looked great walking in front of the Ladies.

Our Christmas Basket Chinese Auction was held at the Post Christmas Party on December 19th.  Congratulations to all the winners. The money we received will go to our programs for the Veterans.  I would like to thank all of you who supported this event.

The New Years Eve party was fabulous.  We had a real good turnout.  The music was great, the food was delicious and a great time was had by all.  If you missed it this year don’t miss it next year.  I’m sure you will enjoy yourselves.

On January 17th we are inviting everyone to bring their children, grandchildren, friend’s children, etc. to the Post (upstairs) to make Valentines cards for our active and inactive service men and women.  We will begin at 1PM.  We will supply all the items needed to make the cards.  Hopefully we will have a good turnout.  Please come and help us with this project.

Our next meeting will be on January 7th at 7PM.  Please try to attend.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a “Healthy and Happy New Year”.

Boys State

It's the time of the year to be thinking of qualified young men that we can send to Boys State.  This year we will be sending only 6 boys due to the shortfall in the budget and the increase of cost to attend.  We can send as many as 7 boys to the event so if anyone knows of a business or a private party who would like to support one more boy please contact Ed Hicks or Jay Josko.  The cost this year is $350.00 per boy plus the cost of transportation, still to be determined.

This project is one of American Legion's biggest projects of the year.  Please help if you can.

Thank you,
Ed Hicks
Boys State Chairman

Sergeant At Arms

Well we had a busy year for the Honor Guard. I want to thank everyone in the Honor Guard for a great job. We had a lot of thanks from family and friends for what we did for our Veterans.

As always we are looking for members to join the Honor Guard.  Complete uniforms will be provided.  Contact Bob at 596-7051 or any Officer in the canteen.

If you would like a red shirt to show your support for our troops on Friday, we have a signup sheet in our canteen. If you want your name on it please note it on the signup sheet.

I want to thank Charley Alsup for taking over for me for the Christmas parade.

Also remember last Tuesday of the month is honor guard practice and the last Sunday of the month is the Honor Guard breakfast.
