Commanders Message

Legionnaires,

May is upon us and election of officers and Memorial Day are upon us. We were delighted to have several contributions to the Post, that combined neared the Twenty Thousand dollar mark. I am so proud of our members who dedicate their time, effort and hard earned cash to insure the success of this Post. There are many tasks left unfinished and we have many more issues to accomplish. I urge all members to become more involved in post activities. A special thanks to the Sons of the Legion for the fantastic donation of Ten Thousand Dollars to the Post. This shows all of us that working together we can accomplish more than working apart. Let us strive to continue along this path of inclusion and cooperation in the coming months and years.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Josko

Commander

Chaplains Corner

Your life is the sum of the responses you have made toward God. God makes Himself known to you, what you do next is your decision. Your reaction reflects what you believe about Him.

You stand at an exciting new door of opportunity to know God more intimately every time you believe Him.

What adjustments are you willing to make in order to respond positively to Christ?

Hello Ladies:

We had our Bake Sale the end of March and announcing it in the newsletter was not possible until now due to publishing conflicts.  I want to thank all the ladies who donated the wonderful cookies, cakes, pies, breads and tarts.  The sale was wonderful and a special thanks goes out to Alice Odaffer and Claire Drouin for all their hard work.  This was our first sale and we were very happy with the results.  We even had a past Little Miss Poppy, Kylee Angell and the current Little Miss Poppy, Kendra Angell there to help us.  Plans are in the works for another bake sale sometime around the holidays.

May is a very busy month.  Our poppy distribution will be held on the weekend of May 7th and 8th.  The signup sheet is posted in the bar area.  If you have not volunteered, please contact Alice Odaffer and she can set you up with a 2 hour shift.  Assistance from the Legionnaires and Sons would be greatly appreciated.  Remember all the money collected goes back to the veterans.

As always, Show Me the Money will be held on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 PM.  Everyone is having a great time.  Come and join us.  The game will run through the entire summer.  So that there is no stop in the action, the Sons are handling it on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month.  Remember to support them also. Good bye to all the snowbirds.  Thanks for sharing the season with us. Remember to practice the words “Show Me the Money”.  Have a safe trip home.

Voting to select our officers for the 2016-2017 year will be held at our May meeting.  Nominations will still be taken at this meeting.

The Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 30th at 11:00.  This year Kendra Angell will be Little Miss Poppy and Ryan Ellis will be Little Mr. Poppy.  We will be setting up flags at the cemetery at 9 AM on Saturday May 28th and will be placing poppies on Monday morning May 30th at 9:30 AM.  Please come to the cemetery and help with these projects.  If you plan on marching with us please be at the cemetery at 10:30 in uniform.  We will be picking up the flags and poppies on Tuesday, May 31st.  We will meet at the cemetery at 10AM. Upon returning to the Post we will clean and fold the flags for storage.  If you are available, please come and assist us with this project.

Have a great month and hope to see you at the poppy distribution on May 7th and 8th.

Thanks for all your help and Happy Mother’s Day!!!!

SAL

I would like to start out by thanking Charlie Alsup for his continued help with our Italian night dinners. He is a smooth operator and really has a handle on getting those dinners out and collecting the donations. A special thanks to George Rifenburg for his help in the kitchen and his wife Elaine for selling her homemade desserts and donating the proceeds to the SAL. As always Frank Dausilio did a great job cooking. A special thanks to Frank’s sister, Rosemarie Dausilio for donating the food. She is a new Auxiliary member and owner of the Bella Napoli deli in Juno Beach. The SAL is working hard to do good things for this post and other worthy charities and programs. The SAL was pleased to announce to the Legion before their monthly meeting that we are pledging $10,000.00 to the building fund. We hope to work hand and hand with the Legion in where and how this money is spent for the betterment of the post. I guess there have been some questions on what the SAL’s intentions were when it came to monies collected by their fundraising. Well this pledge of $10,000.00 along with the donation of $900.00 to put two boys through Boy’s State and a couple other donations that went directly back in to the post put us close to $12,000.00 this year we put directly back into this post. I want to thank my officers Frank Dausilio, Paul Milewski, Vic Carpenter, Mike Garrison, Tom Anderson and Jim Josko for a job well done. Also thank you to SAL, Legion and Auxiliary members who have helped us along the way. I want to mention to please be sure to buy some raffle tickets for our premium liquor raffle. Sales are slow and we are hoping at this point to sell enough tickets to break even. There have been no nominations for new officers for the SAL and we have lost and/or are losing three or four current officers depending. If you are interested in becoming an SAL officer and donating your time on a regular basis working with the SAL track one of us down.
