Commanders Message

Dear Members,

I am honored to have the opportunity of leading this post for the upcoming year. Working together anything is possible. To the many members who dedicated so much time and effort thru out the past year I cannot thank you enough. Let us renew our efforts to increase membership and participation in our post. We as an organization represent the best of The American Way of Life, our Motto for God and Country makes us the defenders of Freedom and Champions for the many who served and sacrificed to insure we remain free. Let us together make this Post an example of what the American Legion stands for. Remember together anything is possible.

Jimmy Josko

Congratulations to Jay Josko for winning the title of Commander for 2nd term. I hope you will join me in wishing him the best of luck this coming year; I would also like to congratulate all of the officers who retained their positions including all the SAL in a Lady's Aux Officers.
We are at 92% membership this year to date. Thanks to all that have renewed.

Chaplains Corner

Is it possible to be too gentle with your friends? Be careful not to communicate to your friends that you find their lack of faith acceptable. You are not acting in true friendship if you condone disobedience or even if you look the other way. Kisses are far more pleasant than wounds yet they can be even more devastating if they lull your friend into being comfortable with sin.

If we see our friends in danger and do not warn them, God will hold us accountable for our silence.

Hello Ladies:

Our poppy distribution was a huge success.  I want to take this opportunity to thank all the members, girl state delegate, Little Miss Poppies Kylee and Kendra Angell and the SAL and Legionnaires who volunteered to help. Everyone did a fine job and the veterans will benefit from all your hard work.

We had our election of officers at our last meeting.  President Sandy Swafford, Vice President Claire Drouin, Secretary Carol McAteer, Treasurer Anne Jacobs, Chaplain Kay Richardson, Sgt. At Arms Suzie Bennett, Historian Rachel Dausilio, Executive Committee Olga “Snooky” Angell, Kim Kenney and Yolanda Rourke.

The Constitutional Conference will be held on June 5th in Okeechobee.  We will be meeting at the Post at 7:30 in full uniform and we will car pool.

As always, Show Me The Money will be held on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 PM.  Everyone is having a great time.  Come and join us.  As mentioned at our meeting, we need volunteers to work this great event. So that there is no stop in the action, the Sons are handling it on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.  Remember to support them also.

The Memorial Day Observance was great.  We had a good number of members marching along with Little Miss Poppy Kendra Angell and Little Mr. Poppy Ryan Ellis.  Kendra looked beautiful in her white dress and Ryan looked very handsome in his Army fatigues.  They both did a fine job marching in the parade, handing out poppies and placing the wreaths.  I want to thank all the members who came on Saturday to place the flags and on Monday to place the poppies. I also want to thank all the Legionnaires and Sons who made the crosses and placed them on the median.  The cemetery looked beautiful thanks to all of you.

Please check at the Post for the date of the Police Awards Dinner.  It usually is in June and there will probably be a sign up sheet.

The convention will be held on June 16th through 19th in Orlando.  Hopefully we will win a few awards for all the hard work we have done this year.  At the convention, we will be receiving the new membership cards.  So, beginning July 1st we will start collecting dues.  Just a reminder, the Auxiliary year is from July 1st through June 30th.  By a vote of the membership the dues have been increased to $35 for seniors and $10 for juniors.

Have a great summer.
