Commanders Message

It is my pleasure to report that the Florida Convention was a success and we look forward to another year of spreading the work of the legion. Membership is the focus of this year’s efforts, as without new members it becomes more and more difficult to accomplish the many works we do during the year. Many positions in our post remain unfilled, as an example we need someone to take lead in the Golf Committee for the upcoming golf tournament next year. Please if you have the time, volunteer to help.

A special thanks to Woody our 1st Vice for a fantastic Memorial Day celebration; and to all the other members who stepped up and made this year’s event one to remember.

Please listen to our radio show broadcast on the internet and cell phone, you can hear it anywhere in the world just but downloading it ( FREE ) on your cell phone app,  ( JUP_RADIO )  Every Wednesday and Saturday at 9:30. Please help us build membership and become involved.

One last note, we mourn the loss Sgt at Arms, and Honor Guard OIC, Mr. Robert Dymerski who passed away on Friday June 17th. Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family in these most difficult times.

The Bible stresses that what you say is an accurate indicator of what is in your heart. If your words bless and encourage others, they give evidence of a compassionate heart.

When others are in a crisis, do they know they will find peace and comfort in your words? Do your words and the manner in which you say them reveal a patient heart or do you often regret your words?

Without making any excuses for your words ask the Lord to forgive you for any words that have brought harm. Then ask him to discipline your mouth so that every word you speak is used to encourage and edify others.

Hello Ladies:

Well here we are again, the start of summer – keep in the shade but remember every day is “Another Day in Paradise.”

The Memorial Day BBQ was a great success.

Constitutional Conference was held in Okeechobee on June 5th.  We won three plaques: VA which we have won 4 years in a row, Unit of the Year which we have also won 4 years in a row and Poppy which we have won 2 years in a row. Once again, I want to thank all of you for assisting us in making this the Best Unit in our District.  Keep up the good work ladies.

Six members attended the Convention in Orlando.  We all attended meetings and learned a lot of new information.  We also received our new membership cards for this year.  As you all know our year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30 which means that membership dues will be due beginning July 1st.  Remember that seniors are $35 and juniors are $10.  Please renew as soon as possible.  DO NOT wait for a renewal notice as they may not send them out this year.

Remember all officers must have their dues paid before installation which will be held July 30th at 7PM at the Post with dinner to follow.  There will be a sign up sheet in the bar area.

There will be a Luau party at the VA on July 10th from 2:00 - 3:30.  If you wish to attend please let me know.  We will meet at the Post at 12:30.

The Ken Rourke Memorial Police Awards Dinner will be held on July 16th at the Post with cocktails from 6 to 7, dinner at 7 and awards to follow.  A signup sheet will be in the bar area.

Show Me The Money – We still need volunteers so if you have time please put your name on the list at the Post.

We are still collecting manufacturer coupons, cancelled stamps and pop-tops.  Just bring them to the Post and the bartenders will show you where to put them.

Don’t forget the July 4th BBQ.  Information will be on the calendar in this newsletter.  Hope you all have a wonderful summer.

This will be my last newsletter.  It has been my pleasure to serve as your President these past four years.  We have had a very productive time being recognized by our District and the Department of Florida.  I can’t thank all the ladies enough for all their help and hard work.  Sandy Swafford, as you know, will be your next President and I know she will do a wonderful job.  Please support her as well as you have supported me.  Remember many hands make light work.  Again thanks everyone – it’s been a great ride.

Our next meeting will be on August 4th at 7PM at the Post.

Honor Guard

It’s with tears that I write that my good friend Robert “Bobby D” Dymerski has transferred to the highest Command to be in ranks with our other proud Comrades in Arms. Bob served many positions in our Post, but in my opinion, his outstanding leadership as the Honor Guard OIC marked his name at our Post. I will truly miss his friendship and company. My heart goes out to Patty, Tracy and Tara; the Post is here for you if you need anything at all.

Judge Advocate Robert Jaegers has volunteered to serve as the Honor Guard OIC until a Sergeant at Arms can be elected by the Executive Board.

Andrew Heric

Honor Guard Quarter Master

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Post 271 Sergeant at Arms, Honor Guard Officer in Charge Robert S. Dymerski. Bob served his Post with dignity and distinction. His loyalty to his family, friends and the American Legion will never be forgotten and will always be remembered. Bob was laid to rest on Wednesday June 22, 2016 at the South Florida National Cemetery with full military honors. Post 271 extends our sincere condolences to his wife Patti, daughters Tracey and Tara and granddaughters Morgan and Madison. Robert S. Dymerski, proud Army veteran, Legionnaire, husband, father and grandfather has gone on to a higher authority.

For the Honor Guard,
