Commanders Message

Dear Legionnaires,

Another month has past and I am pleased to report that Solid Waste Authority and our American Legion Post have established a protocol to burn with dignity and proper respect the tremendous amount of American Flags we collect thru out the year. I want to thank the Sons of the Legion member Charles Alsup for all his hard work to help establish this partnership. We were able to retire 364 lbs. of flags, and establish flag drop off boxes provided by waste management thru out the county. I want to also thank First Vice Donald Woodbury for his help in addressing our electrical failure, and replacing our freezer in the Canteen.

Our Police and Fire Department awards dinner was a success; we honored the Officers of the Jupiter, Juno, and Tequesta Police Departments, as well as the Tequesta Fire and Rescue. In attendance was the Mayor of Jupiter, Tequesta and Jupiter Inlet Colony.

Our radio program broadcasts on your phone or tablet on Wednesdays and Saturday mornings and is free to all, just go to the app store and download free " JUP_Radio”.

Please Legionnaires; we need more member participation, we need more new members, we need to address the many issues still unresolved, such as the Code violations, Termites , air-conditioning and other pressing repair items that need to be addressed. Let us work together to make this post prosper in the upcoming months.

Respectfully,

Jimmy Josko

Commander

At this time I would like to offer my apology to John Baker and any other member who I might have offended by my actions on the 10th of July , I strive to hold myself to a level above my actions that day, for this I am sorry, I will act accordingly to those standards in the future.

Perhaps you consider yourself a forgiving person, but you are now facing someone whom you cannot forgive.

Jesus said that the measure in which we are forgiving is the same standard God will use in forgiving us.

As we truly understand God’s gracious forgiveness in our lives, we will naturally want to express this same forgiveness to others. Before you ask God for forgiveness, take a moment to examine the condition of your relationships. Would you want God to forgive you in the same way you are presently forgiving others?

Auxiliary

Hello Ladies:

Hope you are all enjoying your summer.

MEMBERSHIP – As you are aware, our new year has started and dues are now due.  Again, the calendar year is from July 1st and ends on June 30th.  Senior members dues are $35 and Junior members are $10.  The Membership Chairman is Claire Drouin.  Please get your dues in as soon as possible.  You can drop off your dues at the post with one of the bartenders.  If you cannot come to the post, you can mail them to American Legion Auxiliary Unit 271, 775 U.S. Hwy. 1, Tequesta, FL 33469, ATTN: Claire

The VA Community Living Center had a Luau last month.  Yolanda, Rachel, Anna, and Carol attended along with Frankie who wore a grass skirt and coconut bra.  He was the star of the show.  We all had a real good time and the vets really enjoyed themselves and liked their goody bags.  The music was great and we danced, did a conga line and served ice cream, cookies and juice.  Yolanda made three beautiful red, white and blue lap blankets and brought them to the VA..  Great job Yolanda.

The installation went well.  I want to thank all the District Officers who came to install the Officers of Unit 271.  Everyone enjoyed the evening.

Please try to attend Show Me The Money.  It is a lot of fun and everyone has a lot of laughs.  It is on Wednesday nights at 6:30.

The July 4th BBQ was a hit.  The food was delicious and a terrific time was had by all.

A special thanks to everyone who brought deserts to Bob Dymerski’s Celebration of Life.

We have taken care of distributing our poppy money.  We donated a check to the VA Community Living Center, we purchased a lawn mower, blower, edger and weed whacker to Stand Down House and we donated $450 in food to the VA Homeless Food Pantry.  All of the recipients were very pleased with the donations.

I want to thank everyone for all the coupons you have been sending in.  Please be sure to cut them on the dotted line.  If they are not cut on the line we have to re-cut them.  This takes a lot of extra time.  If you need to send in less in order to do this that is OK.  Quality is better than quantity.  We appreciate all that you do.

The Auxiliary will be holding a fund raiser on October 15th upstairs at the Post.  It is the Magic Mike Review and tickets are $25 each.  More information to follow in next month’s newsletter.

Looking forward to a great year with Unit 271.

We are still looking for a Sergeant At Arms to lead the Honor Guard. I want to give Charles Alsup a “BZ” for filling in the gaps while we wait for someone to relieve the Judge Advocate. We will continue with the meetings on the last Sunday of the month and the practice as the Judge Advocate sees fit.

Hope everyone is having a great summer! As some of you already know July was my last month. I took a job teaching 11th grade Honors Chemistry at Belle Glade Central High School. It has been a wonderful 9 years getting to know everyone. Thank you all for things you've taught me! I'm sure gonna miss yall!

With all my Pleasure,

For the Good of the Post

We are in desperate need of some Chairman, please review page two and if there is something that you can chair please do so. In the spotlight is the Golf Chair! We missed the tournament last year and we really can’t afford to lose it again. I know that there are a lot of golfers out there, so PLEASE someone step up!

There are two Officer positions open, Sergeant At Arms and Executive Board member. If you would like to serve this fine Post please come to a meeting and volunteer.
