Greeting to all,

Let me remind our members that our radio show can be accessed via the Internet, iphone, smart phone or tablet by going to the app store on your device and downloading ”jupradio". The show broadcasts on Wednesdays at 0900 hours and repeats on Saturday at 0900 hours; weekly. Please try to tune in and let us know what you think. 

Currently we are in the process of obtaining a new Site Survey in preparation of creating a site plan to correct the code violations of water runoff by the Village of Tequesta.  This has become a costly endeavor and adds to it the previous expenditures for the electrical repair to our buss bar and the replacement of our freezer, any donations toward the building fund would be greatly appreciated. 

We also are supporting several events in the upcoming months.  Wreaths across America, The Veterans Family Fishing Classic, Our Halloween /Fall events and  Our Annual Golf tournament and supporting an proposal to install Veterans Memorial in Jupiter.

To do this we need support. We have a lot of committee positions that remain unfilled. Americanism, Advertising, Children and Youth, Community service, Post activities, ROTC, just to name a few.  Please, if possible, try to give a bit of your time, or send a bit of financial support to help us maintain our obligations to our Veterans and all the other and worthy charities and programs that depend upon us for aid.

Let’s all do what we can to insure our Post prospers, not only for the present but for future veterans and their families. We need your help.  God bless you all and thank you for all you do.

Membership is continuing to increase, please check your card to insure that you have a new card with 2017 across the top.

Our regular Post meeting this month is on the 8th, this is the time to give your input in how we can move forward and make this the best Legion in the state.

All members are allowed to come to the meetings and speak and give their suggestions. We look forward to seeing you there.

Well folks it's time to put away our bathing suites and time to take all our heavy clothes out of storage. Don't forget to winterize the pool and start stocking up on coal ‘n’ fire wood. Oh wait, it’s Labor Day; in that case let's make sure we are all ready for hurricane season. As I write this we are being stalked by several storms in the tropics, hopefully nothing will come to fruition. In case of any serious threat don't hesitate to ask for a hand preparing.

 

Labor Day is nearly upon us and although the Sons of the Legion usually host this event we all decided it would be better for all to contribute our efforts and the spoils of our hard work would go to benefit the Building Fund. There is a signup sheet in the canteen by the kitchen service window. We only need 2 hours per person through the day. Please put your name and number and approximate hours available.  

 

We have decided to provide a limited food menu on the nights we host "show me the money ". Please help us out if you have some free time between 6:00-8:30 PM on the 2nd 4th and 5th Wednesday of each month.

 

Just to let everyone know the Sons are raffling off a $100.00 gift certificate for "McCarthy’s” restaurant, "Dune Dog", and 2 bottles of high end rum. Tickets are $2.00 each or 6 for $5.00 the drawing will be on Labor Day. You don't have to be present.

 

Our monthly SAL meetings are changing to the 3rd Tuesday night at 6:30pm. Don’t forget membership is now due and delinquent after December 31st. Dues are $45.00.

 

Friday September 9th at 6:30pm we will have our monthly fish fry, $8.00 and Saturday the 17th we will be in the kitchen cooking lasagna w/garlic toast and antipasto, $12.95.

Auxiliary

Hello Ladies,

 

 I hope everyone is having a great summer.

 

MEMEBERSHIP- the Auxiliary calendar year is July 1st and ends on June 30th. I understand that our membership cards have only the year on it. That does not change our calendar years. So if you have not paid your dues yet, please do so as soon as you are able. Every year we go to convention and we watch other Unit's get called for having 100 % of their membership. Our membership chairman Claire Drouin has been working hard the past couple of years to reach that 100%. With all the new member she has brought in last year. We still fell short. We take pride in all we do. You are part of “WE”!!!

Be proud of YOUR unit. Please help us make our 100 % and send in your dues. Senior member’s dues are $35, and the Junior’s are $10. GOOD NEWS!!!! NO MORE CUTTING COUPONS!!!!! Please drop off all unwanted coupons to the unit uncut. Ask your friends and family to save them for you. If you are unable to come enjoy the post and are local; please feel free to call me, and we can make plans to pick them up. My number is 561-574-3596.

 

We are in need of committee chairmen for a lot of committees. If you can volunteer please come to our meetings. If you are unable to come due to the day or time doesn't work for you. Contact me and we will work something out. Let’s Work together.

The Auxiliary is having a fund raiser on October 22nd upstairs at the post: “Magic Mike Review”. It is going to be a blast!!! We have limited seating so get your tickets before we sell out. This event is open to the public. The price is $25 in advance and $30 at the door if available.

 

September 10th there is an Honor Flight coming in at PBIA. If you want to show your support please be at the airport at 6:00 and wear your uniform if you have one.

 

We are having a Bake sale December 18th. Our last one was great. Let's make this one Awesome.

 

The Post Family is having a Labor day BBQ September 5th, so invite your family and friends.

Honor Guard

I propose we organize to compete in next year's Department of Florida Honor Guard/Color Guard Competition.  I would like to have input from current Honor Guard members as well as from anyone in the Post or SAL who may be interested in joining so we can present a well-drilled unit next July.  It will also dress up our patriotic and holiday events and other programs.  I would also hope we could expand on the number of Final Honors we can render to our fellow veterans at our local cemeteries.  Flags, rifles, ammunition (blanks only) and Uniform Items will be furnished by the Post.

Blood Drive

Last month we received 6 donations.  Thank you to those who gave.  Please donate blood if you are able, you will save lives!  Our next blood drive is in October 9. Last year we came second in the State for most pints given in the American Legion lets see if we can be number one this year.

Building Fund Report

We have used all of the Home Depot grant money and we still need a few more things to make our post complete.

1. Carpet upstairs.

2. Smoking area.

3. Paint the outside of building.

          I would like to thank all who have donated to the building fund. We are looking for good fund raising ideas to raise the balance. If any can think of new protects let us know.

Boys State

Boys State is American Legions biggest project to help our young people advance in their life. They go to Tallahassee to develop a working Government in one week. As sponsors, we send them at no charge to their families. As you can see, this does cost our Post quite a bit. This is our next year’s budget for this program if anyone can help in any way please contact , Ed Hicks; Boys State Chairman.

          Congratulations to the following members that stepped up in our time of need: Robert Jaegers: Sergeant At Arms, Donald “Woody” Woodbury: Golf Chairman, Gary Lott: Fisheries for Veterans. I want to thank you all; hopefully some of your fellow members will follow you. Also if you don’t choose to be a chair you can always be on the committee to help our programs. 

          There is an Executive Board member position open. If you would like to serve this fine Post please come to a meeting and volunteer.
